5 Quick Tips to Figure Out Your Career Goals

Passion Led Us Here

When you get to your mid-20s to late 30s you start becoming more anxious about where you are at. Actually… the truth is, it mostly never ends there.

It’s not that you’re not going anywhere it’s the fact that you’ve most likely used your earlier years to explore options but it’s not what you were looking for. You start to feel like time is running out and you need to secure your path right NOW or it’s too late. You stare out the window of your office block imagining an alternative life; travelling, a new career, what’s for dinner.

It’s easy to just say “Hey girl, there’s no timescale on life” but the reality is that time is relative.

We can help you transform how you feel about your progression in life by providing you with some guidance on how to focus inwardly to understand what you truly want out of it. Life Coaches Jennifer and Kat share their advice on those stuck at this stage in their lives.

Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be? - Charles Bukowski

I’m in love with this quote by Charles Bukowski: Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be? I believe that growing up, the beliefs and expectations of our environment that we are surrounded by blur the connection with our own truth. To find our unique path, it’s important to undress certain layers, and to reconnect with the truth of who we are.
Once we have a clear vision of what we desire, most people get distracted by the “how” part. This causes a lot of stress. Comparing ourselves with our peers or keeping in mind some kind of “timeline” that we are supposed to follow, doesn’t really help either. Instead, my advice is to get very conscious about where you focus your energy. Focus your attention to changing your belief system through meditation, and elevate your emotions by imaging the future life you want to live. If you do this inner work on a daily basis, you will learn that the “how” is not your job – feeling good and staying in alignment is!

Ask yourself whether other peoples opinions are influencing your own. Making yourself aware of your core values is essential for you to find satisfaction and fulfilment in your career

We spend around a third of our lives at work. Therefore, we should do our best to make sure it’s a positive use of that time. Many of us fall into a job when we leave education and only start questioning the career path we’re on several years later which can leave us feeling confused, overwhelmed and wondering how to switch tracks. The first step is to start being 100% honest with yourself about what you really need from your work – and your life. 1) Start by listing out what you actually like about your current job or work situation. 2) What keeps you there? 3) What did you appreciate about your previous job, or the one before that? You might include things like financial security, a supportive boss or a short commute. Next: consider what’s missing. 4) What would you really like to have in your job that you don’t have right now? Consider each item fully and decide just how important it is for you. Ask yourself whether other peoples opinions are influencing your own. Making yourself aware of your core values is essential for you to find satisfaction and fulfilment in your career, and your life so it’s vital to take stock of your wants and needs early on.
